Learn about local foods, farmers market grants

Workshops on the USDA Farmer’s Market and Local Foods Promotion Program Grants happen this month.

Washington State University is partnering with USDA to help applicants develop and successfully submit competitive proposals. Workshops are scheduled for Thursday, April 16, at the CWU Student Union Building in Ellensburg and Tuesday, April 21, at Urban Grace Church in Tacoma. Workshops are free but require registration. Interns needed for ag jobs

The clock is ticking on internship opportunities for Northwest students exploring agriculture careers. Opportunities deadlining soon include:
• Wilbur-Ellis, a international marketer and distributor of agricultural products, animal feed and specialty chemicals and ingredients, seeks applicants for Field Scout interns in the Columbia Basin and on the Palouse. Deadline is April 27.
• Summer and fall internships with the Washington Grain Commission, learning about the small grains industry, grower outreach and public relations. Deadline to apply is Friday, April 17.
• An organic farm internship at Hope Mountain Farm in north-central Washington. Deadline is May 1.
